# About Stromberg
**The Art of Sound. Since 1894.**
## Where it all started
In 1894, two Swedish immigrants — Alfred Stromberg and Androv Carlson — each put up $500 and founded **Stromberg-Carlson** in Chicago. They started building telephone equipment for independent phone companies, right after Alexander Graham Bell's patent expired that same year. Alfred handled the business side, Androv ran manufacturing. Together they built a reputation for reliable equipment and honest pricing.

Over the next century, Stromberg-Carlson grew into one of America's most recognized names in communications and audio. The company expanded from telephones into military communications, institutional sound systems, and radio and television receivers. Operations moved to Rochester, New York in 1904, and the brand went through several ownership chapters — including General Dynamics — before being acquired by Gularo S.A. in 2001.
## Stromberg today
Today, Stromberg carries that 130+ years of audio heritage into a new generation of portable Bluetooth speakers. The name changed, the mission did not: build audio products that sound great, look even better, and do not cost a fortune.
Every Stromberg product is designed at the intersection of real sound performance, intentional design, and accessible pricing. We test in watts RMS, not marketing claims. We measure battery life at real volume levels. And we design speakers that look as good on your shelf as they sound at your party.
